Standing for Christ in the Public Square - Week 2 June 1st-4th 2010

Simon Calvert, Deputy Director (Public Affairs) of The Christian Institute, challenges us to consider our role as Christian citizens.
Is the Bible just as true in the public square as it is in our pulpits? The Christian Institute believes it is, and that we must engage with politics and the public square if we are to be faithful to Christ’s word. Come and hear about why we must stand up for truth and religious freedom in an increasingly hostile culture.

A Mini-Pastoral Theology - Week 3 June 8th-11th 2010

We are privileged to welcome Hywel Jones, Professor of Practical Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in California as our speaker.
From his extensive and varied experience of pastoral ministry, and of teaching generations of men destined for church leadership on both sides of the Atlantic, this week will offer a distillation of some of the key concerns pastors face. Attention will be given to various tasks in the ministry of the Word, making use of passages from the Pastoral Letters.

“Visible Words of God” (Augustine) – Exploring the Significance of the Sacraments - Week 4 June 15th-18th 2010

Bob Letham of WEST reveals that, during the Reformation, more was written about the sacraments than justification or anything else.
Yet much contemporary evangelicalism has neglected them. Historically, how has the church understood them? How significant are they biblically? How can we recover the kind of vitality that Calvin and others considered them to have? What place do they have in tomorrow’s church life?

Meeting the Challenge of Islam in the UK - Week 5 June 22nd-25th 2010

Islam is scarcely out of the news:  Sharia law, Islamic banking, radicals, etc. However, it is at the local level that Christians face the biggest challenges, since Islam is a missionary religion. Many Christians feel ill-equipped to understand and respond. Anthony McRoy (WEST), Patrick Sookhdeo (Barnabas Fund), Alan Craig (Christian People’s Alliance) and John Elias (UK-based Palestinian American) will be our guides.

Fitness Training for Church Planters & Leaders - Week 6 June 29th-July 2nd 2010

The NETS Institute for Church Planting in Vermont is committed to equipping servant-leaders to plant gospel-driven churches in New England and abroad.
Leadership is a hot topic. But what are the qualifications and role of a Christian leader? How can a godly leader prevent his work from being dross? What practical steps can be taken to develop fit church leaders and planters? Wes Pastor is Founder and President of NETS.
